Rose and Stan get Married

Below are the social notes on mum and dad’s wedding in 1947. I love the descriptions of the wedding attire! I wonder who “AVON” was?

The wedding of Rosemary Mina, elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. P. Vincent, of Cottesloe, to Henri Stanley, only son of the Vicomte and Vicomtesse de Pierres, of Derdebin, Wyalkatchem, was celebrated at the Star of the Sea Church, Cottestoe, on Saturday morning.

The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a beautiful, long sleeved gown of magnolia satin cut on classical lines, with small insets of fine lace at the high neckline. Her veil of creamy tulle was held by a spray of gold rosebuds and had a border of fine old French lace. Her bouquet consisted of deep cream roses.

The bridesmaids, Miss Patricia Vincent, the bride’s sister, and Miss Marguerite de Pierres with their attractive frocks of aqua-green chiffon, wore chaplets of marguerites in their hair and carried loose bouquets of the same flowers.

The groom was attended by Messrs. John McKay and Justin Seward. The ushers were Messrs. G. Summerhayes and W. Wells.

After the ceremony, the reception. which was attended by the Lieutenant-Governor (Sir James Mitchell) and Lady Mitchell, was held at Minnewarra, the home of Mrs. W. E. Vincent at Peppermint Grove. Great bowls of gladioli and roses made a colourful background in the hall, where Mrs. R. P. Vincent, who was wearing a smart frock of French-blue crepe and a matching straw hat, received the guests.

She was assisted by the Vicomtesse de Pierres, who chose a lovely frock of black moricain, the tucked bodic of wichh was embroidered with sequins, an a small matching veiled hat.

Mrs W. H. Vincent’s frock of dark brown and white sheer was worn with a brimmed hat of fine brown straw.

Before leaving the reception, the bride changed to a slim frock of soft, green crepe worn with a small matching hat veiled in brown.

Among the guests were. Lady Birley; Dr. and Mrs. D. D. Paton. Dr. and Mrs. B. Waters; Mr. and Mrs. R. Brisbout, Mr. and Mrs. B. H. B. Lefroy, Mr. and Mrs. G. K. Weldon, Mr. and Mrs. J. Seward.
